2008 – present
Director and Curator of the Bowman~Penelec~Megahan Galleries,
and Associate Professor of Photography and Digital Imaging
Allegheny College, Meadville, PA

Curatorial Work and Gallery Administration

•Plan, install, and manage 8-10 annual gallery exhibitions and related exhibition programming

•Hire and supervise part-time staff to help install exhibitions in 4000 square foot gallery space

•Administer the budget, write grants, keep all contracts and insurance information

•Implement themed curatorial strategies to link curricula across campus

•Procure new sources of revenue to support contemporary exhibitions, related publications,
and campus visits by national and international artists

•Recruit colleagues across divisions to co-curate exhibitions and write catalogue essays

•Edit, lay out, and design all gallery publications and promotional materials

•Maintain and contribute to Art Department webpages, including Gallery website

•Review potential donations of artwork to the College’s collection, and work with the approximately one thousand objects in the collection for curatorial projects

Teaching/Instruction and Operational Support

•Teach a rotation of three of the following courses annually: Photography I (ART171), Photography II (ART271), Freshman Seminar (FS102, Art & Activism), Junior/Senior Seminar (ART583, Advanced Studio Projects), Introduction to Studio Art (ART155)

•Instruct any of the following independent study courses based on demand: Advanced Color Photography, Alternative Processes, Advanced Black & White, Large Format Photography

•Co-teaching Experiential Learning Seminar in Sri Lanka (upcoming, May-Jun. ’16)

•Co-taught short Art/International Studies short course with Andrew Stanbridge (Mar. ’14)

•Co-led class visits and critique sessions with Zanele Muholi (’10), Jennifer Heath (’11), Andrew Stanbridge (’14) and Brendan Fernandes (’15)

•Lead regular critiques, and guide students to generate their own critical responses

•Mentor senior students working on their thesis projects

•Guide students who apply for grants, internships, and fellowships

•Provide technical support for the darkroom and computer art studio

•Supervise part-time photography assistants to help keep labs operating at full capacity

•Advise students so they meet major/minor requirements and maintain good standing

•Direct a unique hybrid photography curriculum that creates a space for interdisciplinary dialogue and fosters excellent student work and critical thinking

Service Work

•Oversaw planning and construction of a new darkroom space to accommodate full classes

•Launched an interdepartmental planning group to design a new, fully-supported interdisciplinary digital arts instructional space for classes in digital photography, media criticism, digital media (computer art), video production, and set/stage design

•Served on the steering committee for the college’s first Mellon Internationalization grant (co-Principle Investigator with Laura Reeck 2014-2015), the Art&Environment Minor, the Safe Zone Task Force, the Campus Life and Community Standards Committee (2010 – 2013) and I am campus representative for the New York Arts Program.

•Co-led the Allegheny College’s first Faculty&Staff Study tour to Japan in 2015 with funds from a Mellon Internationalization Study Tour Grant

•Traveled to Morocco in 2012 with three other colleagues with funds from a Mellon Middle East and North Africa travel grant. Conducted site visit of Al-Akhawayan University in Ifrane in 2013.
