2010-2012 Portraits

Over the years I’ve done a series of portraits of people who I feel live, in some way, outside the lines. While my whiteness and maleness and education and socio-economic status confer a lot of privilege on me, my subject position as an out, gay man still puts me in positions of relative powerlessness in terms of legal protection, civil equality, and social acceptance. Generally, I feel drawn to others whose circumstances place them beyond what is considered, “normal,” and I believe we can sustain communities of difference through fellowship.
